What’s the difference between waxing, laser & IPL hair removal anyway?

Some clients prefer waxing; others prefer laser & IPL hair removal and some have no idea what the difference is or what is right for them.

If you are in the third category and aren’t sure which is best for you, let us talk you through the treatments.

Waxing:

Waxing is a form of hair removal which removes the hair from the root of the follicle. Results are instant with this treatment however it isn’t permanent and will require an appointment every 4 – 6 weeks depending on how quickly your hair grows. Over time, with regular waxing, you will find that your hair grows back thinner and sparser. When booking an appointment, you will need at least a centimetre of hair growth, so the wax can grip the hairs to remove them.

Laser & IPL Hair Removal:

Laser & IPL Hair Removal is another form of hair removal which sends light into the hair follicle, destroying the follicle altogether. As the light from the laser or IPL machine is attracted to dark colours, you will be required to shave the area within 24 hours of your appointment.

Like waxing, treatments are booked every 4 – 6 weeks however results aren’t instant with this treatment and will require 6 – 10 treatments depending on your hair and skin type. After about 3 treatments you will notice the hair thinning and becoming sparse. Between treatments, if you want to stay hair free you will be required to shave as you cannot wax throughout the process of laser or IPL hair removal. Whilst there is a lot of misconception about laser & IPL hair removal, the results aren’t permanent. You will require several maintenance appointments each year to ensure you remain hair free.

So, there you have it! Hair removal really is a personal preference. Some of our clients prefer one over the other however some clients use them together having several laser or IPL hair removal sessions to thin their hair and then returning to waxing.
