Finding The Right Time For IPL
Getting the best from your treatments can depend on a few essential elements one of which is ‘When should you start your IPL Hair Removal Treatments?’
So you’ve started your IPL journey in the cooler months, and with summer fast approaching the question is ‘Can I get IPL in summer?’ The short answer is yes, but we need to give you the lowdown so you can continue with your IPL treatments and still enjoy those hot summer days.
Protect Your Skin
There are a few things to look out for when it comes to looking after your skin in the summer months.
You must avoid sun exposure 2 weeks prior & 2 weeks after your IPL hair removal appointment. As we advise in all our IPL consults, if the skin is tanned (from the bottle or from the sun) the treatment is likely to cause skin damage.
IPL light is attracted to dark pigment, so it makes it harder for the light to seek out the hairs, therefore making the treatment less effective. So, make sure you lather on that SPF, cover up the treated area with clothing so you can make the most of these warmer days!
Can I Go For A Dip? Sorry, No Swimming
We know there is nothing better then cooling off in the pool or the beach on a hot summer’s day, but we strongly recommend you do not go swimming or do any strenuous exercise for the 24-48 hours after your treatment. The treated area can be quite sensitive and sometimes these waters contain bacteria and chemicals that can irritate your skin.
Slip, slop, slap!
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, SPF is your best friend!
After your IPL treatment, your skin will be very susceptible to sun damage, so sunscreen is a non-negotiable!
It’s important to remember that even if there isn’t much sunshine at all, the sun’s rays can still have a high and damaging UV factor, so sunscreen is an all-year round ‘must have’ product.
Aspect Mineral Powder which contains an SPF 25 plus a healthy glow is the perfect way to protect your skin directly after an IPL Treatment and followed daily by Aspect Sunscreen.
