Waxing FAQ What is a 'true' Brazilian wax? Due to the over-popularized term 'Brazilian wax' it has lead to confusion as to what a 'Brazilian' actually is. A true Brazilian is when the hair is clipped, the pubic line is bought down and the labia and bottom are waxed, leaving a thin strip of hair at the front. The Brazilian wax was developed to compliment the style of G-string's worn in Brazil. What type of wax is used? At Brazilian Butterfly we use combination of hot wax and strip wax that has been specifically formulated for our salons. We use three different waxes at the salon that are for different areas of the body. The 'Brazilian' wax is of the highest quality and has been developed to remove hair effectively without pulling on the skin, making your wax as comfortable as possible. How long does it take? All our staff are provided with training in Brazilian waxing and are therefore able to complete the treatment in approximately 20 minutes. Can you use a numbing cream before the wax? Brazilian Butterfly does not recommend clients to use a cream that will numb the skin before a wax. Everyone's skin sensitivity is different and therefore the therapist will always test the temperature of the wax on the skin to check if it is suitable. A numbing cream will dull the senses and make it difficult for clients to assess the temperature. What can influence the discomfort of my wax? Many things can change the discomfort level of a wax. Influences such as fatigue, menstrual cycle and medication can all be factors. How often should I get waxed? Brazilian Butterfly recommends that clients come in for a wax every 4-6 weeks. This will vary depending on an individuals hair growth cycle. How long does the hair need to be? Ideally the hair needs to be approximately 1cm long, it is not recommended that hair is cut before an appointment as the therapist is equipped to clipper the hair to the right length. I suffer from in grown hairs, how can I prevent this from happening? Brazilian Butterfly has launched a series of skin care products that help maintain the skin after a wax. It is recommended that an anti-bacterial skin wash, such as Tea Tree is used in the shower every day. As the hairs start to grow back through the skin a strong loofah should be used with the wash to exfoliate dead skin cells and help the hairs to break through. If ingrown hairs are a problem there is also a product 'BB Soothe' which has been made by Brazilian Butterfly to combat stubborn ingrown hairs. The liquid formula should be applied straight after showering on a daily basis and will significantly reduce the number of ingrown hairs. If further assistance is required you can book in at the salon to have them professionally removed. My skin is very dry after waxing, what should I use? The skin can become quite dry after a wax and so it is important that an anti-bacterial lotion, that doesn't clog the pores, is used every day. Brazilian Butterfly recommends a Tea Tree or Lavender lotion they have been developed of their anti-bacterial, soothing and healing properties and are available from the salon. Can I have a solarium before a wax? The human skin is extremely sensitive, there are a number of activities that should not be done before or immediately after a wax. A solarium or sun exposure will make the skin heat up quicker when hot wax is applied therefore these activities should be avoided before and after a wax. The therapists at Brazilian Butterfly would be more than happy to discuss any other questions you might have regarding these topics.
